Apartándose de los principios liberales de la independencia, en el Perú republicano se mantuvo el régimen de trabajo cautivo, lo cual, aunado a los bajos salarios, ahuyentó a los trabajadores oriundos del país de la agricultura costeña. Este último ha sido puesto en relieve a través de Declaratorias nacionales de patrimonio como aquella concerniente a las Picanterías y chicherías piuranas como espacios culturales (2015). No obstante, la tradición cultural piurana, en todas sus formas, como ha ocurrido en el Perú, se ha enriquecido a través de las aportaciones de diferentes grupos migrantes, como el chino, coexistiendo y creando una cultura culinaria diversa, con prácticas y sabores apropiados y resignificados por la memoria colectiva local. Piura fue un departamento que, en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, recibió una minoritaria población migrante china, en comparación con regiones como Lambayeque y La Libertad (Gutiérrez y Vargas, 2016, p. 76). Pero, como ocurrió en otros lugares con mayor densidad migrante, las fondas tuvieron aparición temprana y, posteriormente, los chifas. ¿Qué productos ofrecían y cómo esta culinaria fue acogida por la población local? ¿Qué insumos locales habrían aportado en esa fácil incorporación del chifa en las mesas piuranas? Y, ¿qué memorias se asocian a estos espacios gastronómicos? son algunas cuestiones que, desde la investigación documental y testimonial, esbozamos en una primera aproximación a este tema no abordado en la literatura histórica sobre la región Piura. En el cuarto capítulo se analizan los datos recogidos en entrevistas elaboradas a inmigrantes y descendientes de inmigrantes chinos residentes en Iquitos, con el fin de apreciar mejor el modo de integración de los inmigrantes chinos a la sociedad iquiteña; igualmente, se dará una mirada inicial al aporte dejado por la comunidad china en Iquitos en el pasado y en la actualidad. El barrio chino de Lima es uno de los pocos enclaves étnicos en el Perú que se mantiene vigente en el imaginario urbano limeño. Su trasfondo histórico, cultural y económico se remonta desde mediados del siglo XIX hasta su consolidación como centralidad económica en la actualidad. Sin embargo, en los últimos años ha entrado en una decadencia tal que presenta una tendencia a convertirse en un gueto. El proyecto propone al fenómeno de la migración como elemento regenerador al integrarse a un tejido urbano degradado. Para ello se plantea un sistema que articula los espacios desconectados de las diferentes capas del lugar. El vacío urbano se convierte en una oportunidad para integrar el barrio chino a la ciudad y de construir equipamiento carente que refuerce el sentido de identidad local. El sistema consiste en la unificación espacial de calles interiores y patios urbanos, reforzados por una serie de infraestructuras en sus puntos críticos. Estos nodos articuladores cumplirán un rol reactivador a través de la disposición de un catálogo de artefactos urbanos de diferentes escalas compuestos por cinco elementos: Centro Comunal, Articulador Vertical, Escalera Urbana, Calle Aérea y Puente Urbano. El sistema pretende mejorar la accesibilidad, las condiciones de habitabilidad y reducir la vulnerabilidad a través de un recorrido que invita a darle una nueva mirada al barrio. El proyecto se plantea como replicable en otros sectores del mismo y reflexiona sobre el carácter heterotópico de la ciudad en un lugar en el que el deambular urbano desdibuja los límites de lo público y lo privado.
