Los migrantes chinos que arribaron a Lima a mediados del siglo XIX participaron en todas las actividades económicas y sociales de la ciudad; sin embargo, la producción de fuentes históricas sobre estas actividades es escasa. En este artículo se presentan algunas escrituras públicas del fondo Protocolos Notariales del Archivo General de la Nación para describir la participación de los chinos en la dinámica de la ciudad y reflexionar acerca del potencial de esta fuente, así como de sus limitaciones. Los documentos que se han encontrado son, en orden de menor a mayor capacidad de agencia del inmigrante chino: contratos (o convenios), poderes, arrendamientos, compra-venta (o traspasos) y testamentos. Quizá los testamentos son el tipo de escritura que mayor diversidad de información ofrece, siendo los contratos los más limitados. En los protocolos notariales se observa todo lo contrario a las crónicas periodísticas donde los chinos eran representados como sujetos degenerados, pues se trata de chinos con nombre y voz propias, con familia y una notable dinámica económica y social.

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo el análisis de los discursos que se dieron en torno a un contrato para la producción de arroz en Costa Rica y que pretendía traer agricultores chinos al país en una época en la cual estos inmigrantes tenían prohibida la entrada al territorio costarricense. El trabajo pretende emplear el debate legislativo en torno a esta contratación como una muestra para analizar la retórica utilizada en contra y a favor de los inmigración china y de la llamada “raza amarilla” especialmente en el seno de la clase política costarricense durante estas primeras décadas del siglo XX. El objetivo general del enfoque es poder evidenciar que no existía un discurso homogéneo sobre el tema étnico-racial en la Costa Rica de ese período.

El comercio de soja y la inmigración china son dos campos nodales de las relaciones sino-argentinas. Las políticas comerciales de cada país guían las ventas de soja, mientras que la política migratoria argentina busca controlar el flujo inmigratorio chino. Sin embargo, la creciente influencia de empresas y migrantes chinos en Argentina permea funciones asignadas al Estado. Pese a esto, el gobierno sudamericano todavía cuenta con capacidad para ejercer una influencia restrictiva significativa sobre los actores no estatales –legales o clandestinos–, a través de su papel dominante en la alianza con las empresas transnacionales y la potestad de controlar el flujo migratorio.

La memoria histórica de los descendientes es parte de la diversidad cultural que caracteriza a la nación peruana, que fue enriquecida con los 172 años de presencia china en los 200 años de vida republicana del país. En esta colección presentamos 19 fuentes documentales de los años 1852 a 1929 consideradas patrimonio documental de la nación, que han sido incorporadas con el apoyo del Archivo General de la Nación del Perú.</p>

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
Muestra las estrategias utilizadas por los inmigrantes chinos para insertarse en la sociedad costarricense, más específicamente, en la ciudad de Puntarenas. Inicia con una breve reseña histórica de las inmigraciones chinas de finales del siglo XIX a principios del siglo XX, para luego focalizarse en las inmigraciones contemporáneas. Las primeras inmigraciones chinas fueron producto de necesidades estructurales de Costa Rica para traer mano de obra barata con el fin de contribuir al desarrollo de infraestructura y trabajo en el campo. Las siguientes inmigraciones fueron independientes debido a las condiciones socioeconómicas que presentaba el país y que lo hacían atractivo a los extranjeros. El estudio concluye explicando cómo el ciclo de inserción social actual se ha profundizado debido a las nuevas relaciones bilaterales establecidas por el país con China desde el año 2007.

El trabajo presentado aquí está basado en investigaciones realizadas en el Archivo del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores en Lima y pretende contribuir con unas estimaciones sobre la cantidad de chinos que migraron al Perú antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y una descripción de los reglamentos, manipulaciones, controversias y acuerdos clandestinos alrededor de esa inmigración. A partir de ellas, será posible sugerir algunas de las características importantes de esa comunidad mercantil, sus relaciones con diferentes sectores de la sociedad peruana, y la importancia de la corrupción y las vinculaciones personales entre chinos y élites peruanas para la creación y continuación de una colonia china en el Perú.
