Llegaron a una sociedad cerrada que los forzó a sobrevivir bajo condiciones marginales y vulnerables. Con el transcurso de las décadas y de manera paulatina construyeron una comunidad integrada a la sociedad peruana. La principal conclusión de este artículo es que la alta movilidad social, incluso mayor que la de los habitantes nativos, fue resultado de una serie de tácticas empleadas por los chinos a lo largo de su vida cotidiana. Este comportamiento explica por qué en la actualidad los «chinos» constituyen uno de los grupos inmigrantes con mayor inserción en la sociedad peruana que cualquier otro grupo étnico inmigrante.
